Sarah C. Varghese & Associates, insurance staff counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies, is seeking an Arbitration Paralegal to join our expanding New York No Fault/PIP Office located in Jericho, NY. While every day can provide different experiences and opportunities, an Arbitration Paralegal is responsible for managing a high-volume caseload of PIP arbitration matters in a fast-paced environment providing high quality work. The office allows for collaborative environments with experienced peer mentors. There are no billable hours in this opportunity. This role provides diversity of work and the opportunity for career development. This person in this role will interact with clients, experts, and witnesses throughout the litigation process. The position is classified as a hybrid role, meaning that the work arrangement calls for hours in the office and virtually. Everyone in a hybrid role is required to spend approximately 60% of the time within the office.  Hours for the position are M-F, 8:30 am-5:00 pm or 9:00 am-5:30 pm.  Work arrangements could change over time based on business needs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Reviewing AR-1 submissions
  • Preparing Conciliations
  • Reviewing medical records
  • Appearing for AAA hearings
  • Drafting reports
  • Significant communication with claim partners

Qualifications

  • Previous experience required/preferred
    • 1-5 years of recent No-Fault paralegal experience preferably in insurance defense or personal injury environment
    • Experience as a No-Fault Claims Adjuster 
    • Familiarity with Court and American Arbitration Association rules and procedures
    • Familiarity with New York Civil Court Rules and Procedures
    • Understanding of medical terminology, CPT Codes, Workers’ Compensation Fee Schedule
    • Ability to draft pleadings, routine motions, discovery, and legal memoranda
    • Experience with discovery process
  • Key Skills required
    • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, prioritize workload, multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and communicate effectively
    • Strong written communication skills, attention to detail
    • Legal research
  • Technology/software experience required
    • Strong software/technical skills
    • Working knowledge of a Case Management system
    • Working Knowledge of a Document Storage system
  • Education requirements including licensing and certifications
    • Prior litigation or paralegal experience, paralegal degree/certificate/certification, medical training, or relevant coursework or legal studies degree is required
