Business Data Analyst

Job Description:

AEGIS Insurance Services, Inc. (“AEGIS”) has an immediate opening for a Business Data Analyst responsible for business, data, and process analysis. The analyst will interact with subject matter experts in Accounting, Actuarial, Claims, Information Technology, Loss Control, Member Relations, and Underwriting. The analyst will liaise between the technology and business domains of the organization, while identifying process and system improvements based on data driven analysis. The analyst will also visualize data insights to demonstrate findings.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data analytics or related field; high-performance work teams a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret data into meaningful insights, trends, patterns
  • Experience with Business Intelligence and data visualization tools
  • Experience that effectively demonstrates the following skills and abilities:
    • Analytical thinking that identifies the potential for and extent of risk and risk related factors
    • Analyzing data for trends, patterns, insights
    • Data driven decision making that leverages available information to make informed decisions
    • Negotiation skills that successfully achieve consensus among parties with differing viewpoints and values
    • Interpersonal skills that build and maintain professional relationships
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience; degree in insurance, computer science, analytics, or related field desired
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, Microsoft Access, and SharePoint, proficiency with advanced functions in Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time while working on multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment, and make necessary decisions to complete assigned tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with various business divisions
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data from multiple sources

Essential Job Functions:

Data Research, Collection and Preparation

  • Conduct research on Insured company and exposure information
  • Collect, cleanse, and prepare data from external data sources (S&P, EIA, and other data sources) and work with stakeholders to leverage the data
  • Collaborate with IT to implement system solutions to leverage the data that is manually captured and maintained, operationalize manual data capture processes
  • Research and maintain existing complex company hierarchies and update the relationship management system, which may also include contact and contact role changes

Data Analysis and Interpretation

  • Analyze the Company’s internal data collected from source business applications (Underwriting, Claims, Loss Control, etc.) and identify ways to better manage and utilize the information
  • Analyze the business processes aligned with data and recommend system or process changes
  • Integrate internal data with external exposure data for analysis
  • Leverage tools to streamline data analysis and cleansing
  • Detect and classify key takeaways, trends, and conclusions from the data and summarize insights for stakeholders and management
  • Partner with business stakeholders and IT on methods to improve data quality based on analysis findings

Data Visualization

  • Visualize data findings and insights, leveraging existing and new visualization tools and methods
  • Work across divisions on data driven strategies that improve business processes and decision making
  • Collaborate with IT on advanced analytics on IT managed platforms, recommend enhancements

Additional Responsibilities

  • Remain current on other team members’ job functions (including the Member Applications team) through cross-training to support the group’s responsibilities and serve as an alternate when needed 
  • All other duties as assigned

We expect to pay a starting salary between $80,000 and $100,000. An applicant’s placement within this range is based on their individual qualifications and professional experience.
