Consulting Principal, Enterprise Architect (P&C Insurance)

About Cognizant Consulting

Cognizant Consulting is more than Cognizant’s consulting practice—we’re a global community of 5,000+ experts dedicated to helping clients reimagine their business. Blending our deep industry and technology advisory capability, we create innovative business solutions for Fortune 500 clients. And now, we’re looking for our next colleague who’ll join us in shaping the future of business. Could it be you?

About the role

As a Consulting Principal, Enterprise Architect (P&C Insurance), you will make an impact by setting the enterprise and data architecture direction for core insurance operations—underwriting, policy administration, billing, and claims—so our clients can modernize safely and at speed. You will be a valued member of the Technology Consulting Group and will work collaboratively with client executives, business and IT leaders, and cross‑functional Cognizant delivery teams.

In this role, you will

  • Set and govern enterprise architecture strategy for P&C carriers, ensuring scalability, security, resilience, and compliance across platforms and programs.
  • Architect domain solutions across underwriting, policy lifecycle, billing, and claims—aligning technology capabilities to measurable business outcomes.
  • Lead data architecture and integration, designing models and patterns that ensure data quality, lineage, governance/MDM, and seamless interoperability across policy/claims/billing ecosystems.
  • Drive solution design and modernization of legacy cores using cloud‑native patterns, API‑first design, microservices, and event‑driven architectures to improve agility and change velocity.
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops and translate complex concepts into executive‑ready narratives; build actionable roadmaps for underwriting, policy, and claims transformation.
  • Champion innovation, applying AI/ML (including Agentic AI) and market insights to create practical solutions and accelerators for clients and internal teams.
  • Lead and mentor consulting teams, embedding best practices in enterprise and data architecture, and ensuring solution assurance across multi‑team delivery.

Work model

We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 - 4 days a week in a client office in Jersey City, NJ. Regardless of your working arrangement, we’re here to support a healthy work‑life balance through our wellbeing programs.

Working arrangements are accurate as of the date of posting and may change based on the project you’re engaged in as well as business and client requirements; we’ll always be clear about role expectations.

What you must have to be considered

  • 10+ years delivering enterprise‑scale solutions in P&C insurance across underwriting, policy administration, billing, and claims.
  • 5+ years in technology consulting/IT strategy (preferably at a leading consulting firm), steering architecture roadmaps and complex transformations.
  • Proven leadership on large P&C core programs leveraging Guidewire and/or Duck Creek, including cloud/SaaS migrations and integration ecosystems.
  • Microservices architecture expertise: domain‑driven design, API‑first architecture, API gateways, event‑driven patterns, service mesh, and container orchestration.
  • Data architecture depth across P&C domains: modeling for policy/claims/billing; governance/lineage; MDM; data quality; analytics enablement (lakehouse/warehouse; batch/stream pipelines).
  • Cloud architecture proficiency (AWS/Azure): secure networking, identity and secrets management, Infrastructure as Code; CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps.
  • Ability to communicate executive‑ready narratives and translate complex technical concepts for business and IT stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated architecture governance: standards, patterns, reference architectures, and solution assurance across multi‑team delivery.
  • Leadership: mentoring architects/engineers, fostering innovation, and driving measurable outcomes with a decisive, results‑oriented style.
  • Education: Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (required).

These will help you succeed

  • TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification; AWS/Azure Architect certifications.
  • Experience applying AI/ML and Agentic AI to P&C use cases (e.g., underwriting workbench insights, claims triage, fraud detection).
  • Proven thought leadership (whitepapers, conference talks) and industry involvement across insurance transformation forums.
  • Hands‑on experience establishing architecture boards, reference models, and guardrails in regulated environments.
  • MBA or advanced technical degree.
