Description
SUMMARY: The Lead Mechanic is a hands-on working leader responsible for performing advanced troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on facility and production equipment, while also providing direction and guidance to the maintenance team. The Lead Mechanic ensures safe, efficient, and reliable operations through both technical expertise and leadership, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Guidance and support of mechanical troubleshooting and repairs of processing equipment (conveyors, weighers, baggers, sealing machines, pumps, motors, metal detectors, etc.)
- Provide guidance and support of electrical troubleshooting and repairs of processing equipment (PLCs, Drives, Servos, 480V Motors, Control Circuit, Labelers, Closed Loop Controls, etc.)
- Provide guidance on Basic Fabrication (welding, milling, etc.)
- Assign and audit completion of PMs (Preventive Maintenance)
- Train other maintenance mechanic’s as necessary
- Assist production personnel with change-overs and set-ups
- Dismantle defective machines to access problem areas or install new parts
- Tasks are to be completed while maintaining the highest safety, food safety and quality, cost and GMP standards in a high-speed processing environment.
- Work cooperatively in cross-functional teams to solve persistent downtime issues.
- Investigate recurring equipment failures and implement long-term solutions to prevent future issues.
- Collaborate with management to create schedule for planned maintenance events and work directly with all automation vendors during the hardware and software commissioning process
- Assist maintenance Manager with all projects for production maintenance to work within production timelines
- Assist Maintenance Manager to Develop and implement Preventive Maintenance on existing and future equipment
- Assist Maintenance Manager to Develop and maintain current inventory of equipment
- Assist Maintenance Manager to Provide guidance on the design and management of future automation project workÂ
- Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma or GED required
TRAINING, SKILLS, LICENSES: Excellent knowledge of the principles of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Working knowledge of PLC’s, VFD’s, and other automation equipment. 3 years multi-skill maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. 4 years automated production experience in lead role. Experience working at temperature-controlled facility. Preferred experience with produce scales, conveyors, pumps, spin dryers, cutting equipment, hoppers, sealers and air compressors. Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical and electrical fundamentals and applications. Proficient computer skills required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
