Job Summary
As a Preschool Assistant Teacher at Ivy Kids you will support the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for children. This role assists with implementing curriculum activities, supervising daily classroom routines, monitoring developmental progress, maintaining accurate records, and fostering positive social and emotional growth through developmentally appropriate practices. The Assistant Teacher ensures compliance with state licensing standards, health and safety procedures, and company policies while building positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
General
- Maintains a classroom environment grounded in Conscious Discipline; employs positive guidance strategies in alignment with state licensing standards to support children through social, academic, or adjustment challenges.
- Keeps accurate and current records of each child’s developmental milestones, student accidents, anecdotal notes, and attendance.
- Under the direction of the lead teacher, helps to establish developmentally appropriate room arrangement, decor, and learning environments in the classroom, consistent with the program’s philosophy and goals.
- Provides daily communication to parents
- Assists in maintaining classroom bulletin boards.
- Understands and adheres to Ivy Kids Personnel Policies
- Maintains cleanliness and follows a 4-step sanitation process and cleaning checklist.
- Communicates appropriately with potential and current families.
Health and Safety
- Administers CPR/First aid if needed.
- Properly maintains educational materials and equipment.
- Ensures all sanitization procedures are followed as regulated by child care licensing.
- Keeps the classroom and other play areas safe, neat, and clean.
Interaction with Parents, Staff and Director
- Observes, records, and reports to the director any significant behavior of children or staff that could adversely affect the quality of care provided.
- Actively participates in center events, staff training sessions, meetings, and programs.
- Accepts temporary work assignments in the event regularly scheduled staff are not available.
- Maybe required to work after hours or weekends for center events, trainings, etc.
Qualifications
- The assistant teacher must meet or exceed state licensing requirements for age, education, and experience. Previous work experience is preferred.
- Must be able to repeatedly bend, stoop and run; must repeatedly lift and carry children up to 50+ pounds.
- Must be able to effectively interact and communicate with children and parents.
- The assistant teacher must maintain at least 24 hours of training each year.
