General Responsibility:Â Provide direct oversight for managing early childhood screenings, referrals, assessments, and special education service provision for those children who qualify for services under IDEA including providing supports for families and staff.Â
Specific Responsibilities: Work closely with multiple school departments within the Head Start service area to schedule screenings, obtain screening results and schedule rescreen appointments; work with Early Intervention organizations and local school departments as children and families experience the referral process when they are referred for special education services; track and document the timely receipt of screening and referral information for individual children using the program’s information management system; advocate for children and families at meetings; support classroom/home visiting staff in their provision of services for children with diagnosed special needs or with developmental challenges including social/emotional challenge by providing observations, hands-on modeling of recommended strategies, and resource and referral information for staff and families. The Disability Coordinator is involved in transition activities by supporting staff, children and families making transitions within and out of the Early Head Start and Head Start program.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or a related filed required.
Special Qualifications: Must be highly organized, have basic computer knowledge and skill, work well in a team environment, have effective professional communication skills to promote effective collaborations with service providers with the communities served. Demonstrate an understanding of everyone’s experiences, every day. Ensuring the delivery of services that recognizes and respects that every moment matters.
