Provides comprehensive care for and is made up of various specialists, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers. Key specialists include medical oncologists (chemotherapy), radiation oncologists (radiation therapy), and surgical oncologists (surgery). Nurses and other professionals manage patient care, coordinate treatments, and provide emotional support, creating a coordinated approach to care. The team provides care across the cancer journey, from diagnosis and risk assessment to treatment and long-term management. 

Also, working with a team who works together to coordinate a patient's care, ensuring different aspects of treatment are aligned. While each member of the team brings a specialized area of expertise to ensure patients receive the best possible care.

 

How you’ll contribute 

A Registered Nurse (RN) who excels in this role:

  • Possesses knowledge and understanding of cancer care.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of cancer treatments, interventions and expected outcomes.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of oncologic emergencies including patient management, appropriate interventions, therapies and expected outcomes.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper administration of IV chemo including set up and management of home chemotherapy infusions.

  • Demonstrates appropriate precautions in preparation, handling and disposal of chemotherapy.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the assessment, management and follow-up care of an IV extravasation. 

  • Demonstrates knowledge of clinical research trials through participation in data collection, drug administration, patient education and follow-up.

  • Ability to work in out-lying clinics as needed.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of oral cancer treatments and educates patients about side effect management.

What we’re looking for 

Applicants should have a current state RN license and possess a degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:

  • BSN preferred

  • 2 years’ experience in medical surgical nursing

  • Oncology nursing experience preferred

  • ACLS Certification preferred
