Lead the Future of Transportation in Northeast Arkansas

The City of Jonesboro is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to lead regional transportation planning for one of Arkansas's fastest-growing metropolitan areas.

This executive leadership position guides long-range transportation planning manages federally funded planning programs, and works collaboratively with local governments, state agencies, elected officials, and community stakeholders to improve mobility and support economic growth throughout the metropolitan region.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the region's comprehensive transportation planning program.
  • Develop and implement the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP), Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), and Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP).
  • Manage MPO staff, budgets, and federal planning grants.
  • Coordinate with the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT), local governments, federal agencies, and regional partners.
  • Present recommendations to policy boards, public officials, and community groups.
  • Oversee public participation initiatives and ensure compliance with federal transportation planning requirements.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a collaborative leader who brings:

  • Bachelor's degree in planning, engineering, public administration, geography, business, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible transportation or regional planning experience.
  • Supervisory and project management experience.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working with federal or state transportation programs is highly desirable.
  • Experience with GIS and transportation planning software is preferred.
  • AICP, GISP, or related professional certification is a plus.
