POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Education Director, the Teacher’s Aide will be responsible to assist teachers in providing classroom experiences to enhance and promote the educational, intellectual, and social growth and development of children.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Prepares classroom, materials and supplies needed for daily activities and lessons.
  • Organizes and participates in indoor and outdoor activities for children that promote a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Assists teacher in preparing lessons and daily schedules; maintains activity calendars.
  • Checks classroom for safety concerns; ensures cleanliness of classroom.
  • Attends parent/teacher meetings and assists teachers in informing parents of children’s progress; responds to questions from parents.
  • Assists with child-centered activities for parents.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation and generates reports or memos as required.
  • Escorts children on field trips.
  • Takes charge of classroom in absence of the teacher on an as needed basis.
  • Required to take at least one child development course each semester in order to develop skills.
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Has high energy, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm to work with children.

 





KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:



  • Knowledge of child development, diet and nutrition guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Pala Band of Mission Indians traditions, language, history and culture.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of personal information about children, families and staff.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact and maintain good working relationship with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.
  • Skills in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions and implementing recommendations.
  • Skill in administering disciplinary rules to children and resolving situational conflicts among children.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • High School Diploma, AA Degree in Education or 12 ECE units.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR.
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians. Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
  • Indian preference will apply. The Pala Band of Mission Indians will give hiring preference to fully qualified applicants that are Pala Tribal Members. Pala Band of Mission Indians is an equal opportunity employer.
  • No physical limitations relative to lifting, stooping, bending, walking, standing, climbing, etc.
  • Must be able to pass a Fingerprint-based background check of potential employees, volunteers, and contractors pursuant to Public Law 101-630 - Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
