ABOUT THE ROLE


An Automation Technician supports the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operation of automated manufacturing equipment and control systems at the operating site. This role works closely with Automation Engineers, Maintenance, Manufacturing, and IT/OT teams to ensure reliable equipment performance and minimize production downtime, with a focus on hands-on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, equipment support, PLC/HMI assistance, sensor and instrumentation checks, and automation system reliability.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Equipment & Controls Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot automated manufacturing equipment and control system issues.
  • PLC & HMI Support: Support PLC and HMI diagnostics and basic programming changes under engineering direction.
  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automation equipment.
  • Sensor & Device Inspection: Inspect and troubleshoot sensors, actuators, motors, drives, and control devices.
  • Startup & Commissioning Support: Support equipment startup, commissioning, and production activities.
  • Network Connectivity Support: Assist with equipment network connectivity and communication troubleshooting.
  • Documentation & Backups: Maintain system backups, maintenance records, and technical documentation.


REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS


Required

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Automation, Electronics, Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, or a related field.
  • Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI systems.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and control schematics.
  • Knowledge of sensors, actuators, motors, drives, and industrial control devices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment such as multimeters.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with Rockwell Automation (RA) PLC and HMI systems.
  • Experience with Cognex vision systems.
  • Familiarity with Systech serialization or inspection systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial Ethernet and equipment network communications.
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing industries.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), servo systems, or industrial instrumentation.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, qualification, or validation activities.


SKILLS


Technical Skills

  • PLC and HMI diagnostics and basic programming, including Rockwell Automation (RA) systems.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical drawings and control schematics.
  • Troubleshooting sensors, actuators, motors, drives, and industrial control devices.
