Who We Are

REACH, Inc. was founded in 1977 by a group of families in Juneau seeking support for their children with developmental disabilities. What began as a small family-led initiative became an official nonprofit in 1978 and has grown into a trusted provider of services throughout Southeast Alaska. Our mission is to promote choice, independence, and well-being through advocacy and high-quality, person-centered services.

Position Summary

The Employment Specialist helps individuals supported by REACH achieve their employment goals through job development, career exploration, customized employment, and workplace support. This position works closely with individuals, families, employers, and support teams to create meaningful employment opportunities, develop job skills, and promote long-term employment success. Responsibilities also include supporting pre-vocational services, self-employment exploration, employer partnerships, and person-centered employment planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop employment opportunities for individuals receiving services.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers and community partners.
  • Conduct job discovery, assessments, and career exploration activities.
  • Develop and implement employment support plans and work-related goals.
  • Support individuals with pre-vocational services and self-employment exploration.
  • Collaborate with support teams to ensure successful job placement and retention.
  • Monitor employment outcomes and adjust supports as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely service documentation.
  • Promote REACH's mission, core values, and service principles.
  • Supervise, schedule, train, and support Job Coach staff.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.
  • Provide direct job support services and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 21 years of age or older.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred

  • Experience in supported employment, human services, or developmental disabilities services.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid-funded services, disability programs, and employment supports.
  • Experience developing employer partnerships and community employment opportunities.

Work Environment This position includes office, community, and employment-site work. Regular travel within the community may be required. Duties may include extended computer use, direct support activities, outdoor work environments, and occasional lifting or physical assistance.

Conditions of Employment

  • Pass and maintain all required background checks.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Complete required onboarding, training, and certification requirements.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Alaska Driver's License and required auto insurance.
  • Comply with all REACH policies and regulatory requirements.
