Job Purpose/Summary: 

The Safety & Training Manager is responsible for leading the Company's safety and employee training programs across two food manufacturing facilities. This position develops, implements, and continuously improves safety systems, employee safety onboarding, compliance training, and regulatory programs to build a strong culture of safety. 

The individual will evaluate available solutions, select the best fit for a food manufacturing environment, minimally customize existing content (SOPs, videos, quizzes, competency assessments) to reflect our operations.  They will serve as the ongoing platform administrator and trainer for all Safety, Food Safety, and GMP programs across the facility. 

The Safety & Training Manager partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Human Resources, and Plant Leadership to ensure all employees receive consistent, effective, and documented training while maintaining compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, Food Safety, GMP and company policies.

Essential Food Safety & Quality Responsibilities:

•    General Food Safety Culture & Compliance

Responsibilities: 

•    Lead and continuously improve the Company's safety management system for both manufacturing facilities.

•    Develop strategies that strengthen the Company's proactive safety culture.

•    Reduce recordable injuries through employee engagement, hazard recognition, coaching, and preventive actions.

•    Conduct regular facility safety inspections, audits, behavioral observations, and risk assessments; ensure timely correction of identified hazards.

•    Analyze injury trends and develop corrective and preventive actions.

•    Facilitate incident investigations using Root Cause Analysis (RCA); lad corrective action implementation and verify effectiveness.

•    Maintain OSHA logs and required regulatory documentation.

•    Coordinate & manage:

o    Written IIPP

o    Written emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities

o    written hearing conservation plans

o    written heat Stress plans

o    Monthly safety inspections for sites

o    Industrial noise pollution and employee air quality testing

o    Job Hazard Assessments (JHA’s)

•    Chair Safety Committee meetings and monitor action item completion.

•    Develop safety communications including toolbox talks, alerts, newsletters, and awareness campaigns.

•    Promote employee participation in near-miss reporting and hazard identification.

•    Coach supervisors and managers on effective safety leadership practices.

•    Develop annual safety training calendars; Monitor training completion and compliance

•    Create training materials, presentations, SOPs, videos, quizzes, and competency assessments for Safety, Food Safety, GMP; conduct these trainings.

•    Maintain the Learning Management System (LMS) and employee training records.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Strong working knowledge of:

•    Cal/OSHA regulations, standards

•    OSHA standards

•    Food Safety, QA training topics experience-preferred 

•    Incident investigation methodologies, Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

•    Risk Assessment

•    Safety Management Systems

•    Public Speaking, Presentation Skills

•    Data Analysis

•    Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

•    Learning Management Systems

•    Bilingual English/Spanish 

Education and Experience

•    Bachelor’s degree in related fields preferred. 

•    7+ years of progressive safety leadership experience

•    5+ years of employee training and development experience

•    Multi-site manufacturing experience preferred

•    Food manufacturing experience strongly preferred

•    Experience leading safety culture initiatives

•    Experience developing learning programs

•    Experience managing regulatory compliance

•    Experience conducting incident investigations

•    Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Physical Demands: 

•    Frequent walking throughout manufacturing facilities; hot and or cold environments.

•    Standing for extended periods.

•    Ability to enter production, warehouse, maintenance, and utility areas.

•    Use of required PPE while in production environments.

Work Environment

Work is performed in manufacturing, warehouse, office, and outdoor environments where exposure to machinery, forklifts, varying temperatures, noise, flour dust, and food production processes is common. Required personal protective equipment must be worn when entering production areas.
