Position Title: Director of Preconstruction

This individual plays a crucial role in providing unparalleled service to our company’s impressive list of clients and requires keen attention to detail, the ability to improve processes, and cross-departmental collaboration savvy. Cross-Departmental Coordination

The skillful management of preconstruction and estimating operations is a key responsibility of our Director of Preconstruction and include the following duties, among others:

  • Provide comprehensive and accurate cost estimates and schedules
  • Onboard and ongoing training for estimating team members
  • Maintain schedules and staff assignments
  • Oversee construction management budgeting including conceptual estimates and design milestones
  • Oversee general contracting bidding including self-perform requirements
  • Collaborate with Miller-Davis’ Project Executives on all projects
  • Ensure coordination between estimating and other project team members, both internal and external

Process Improvement

Miller-Davis Company continually strives to increase efficiency and our Director of Preconstruction is instrumental in developing process improvement and implementation that will lead to enhanced workflows and client and project partner experiences. This position will be responsible for duties that include, among others:

  • Review of estimates with project and estimating team members
  • Maintenance of historical cost and productivity data
  • Oversee proper bid form preparation including completion of bid bond requests and any other required bid form documents
  • Assess, apply, and refine preconstruction technology and tools 

Relationship Management

Establishing and maintaining strong relationships is foundational to upholding Miller Davis’ mission and core values. The Director of Preconstruction is a sentinel to our client relationship-management strategy and performs the following duties, among others:

  • Develop relationships with owners, architects, and project partners
  • Pursue project leads
  • Participate in business development and project interviews 
  • Oversee solicitation of subcontractor and supplier proposals
  • Represent Miller Davis at pre-bid conferences and project meetings

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Proven problem solving, active listening, and leadership skills
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Decisiveness, patience, and composure under pressure
  • College Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or related experience
  • Prior construction experience including at least 10 years of estimating
  • Familiar with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, and digital estimating software
