Job DetailsJob Location: Kalispell, MT 59901Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $20.00 - $30.00 Hourly Position Purpose   The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Food & Beverage Manager at the Terraces by completing the duties of this description as noted.  This position also prepares and serves high quality meals according to menus, in a timely manner, to meet meal schedules.    Specific Duties and Responsibilities Policies and Procedures Maintain confidentiality of residents, resident family members, coworkers, and Immanuel Living. Understand and support the philosophy, policies, and standards of Immanuel Living and the Nutrition Services Department. Maintain quality of resident care, including compliance with Facility and Nutrition Services Department policies and procedures, and State and Federal guidelines. Follow facility and department policies and procedures. Position Duties  Possess a high degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene. Maintain high safety and sanitation standards in food service preparation. Maintain and follow standardized recipes and special diet orders. Prepare and serve food according to planned menus. Report equipment and supply needs to Food & Beverage Manager Support purchasing, receiving, and storage standards. Use and teach staff proper food handling techniques. Date, label, and store food properly. Keep work areas clean and in good order and assist with cleaning duties. Food & Beverage Manager with the following: Purchase food and supplies, based on production needs. Prepare menus for regular and therapeutic diets, Assure that food is obtained and ready for meal preparation as listed on the menu. Plan and organize the preparation of special meals, parties, banquets, etc. Minimize, plan, and utilize leftovers appropriately. Monitor and control department resources according to established budget. Conduct inventory of food and supplies. Manage incoming telephone calls, interactions with residents, employees, and salespersons. Maintain an organized office and food production areas. Promote a team atmosphere and workplace safety. Other Duties & Responsibilities Communicate with supervisor and participate in training and/or meetings that help facilitate departmental communication process. Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled or required.  Attend staff and departmental meetings, as required. Communicate with others in a considerate manner. Function effectively as a team member. Maintain understanding, patience, and tact in dealing with residents, resident families, and coworkers. Maintain good working relationships with other staff. Maintain regular work attendance and follow established work schedule; maintain flexibility if called in to work and during regular shift. Perform other duties as assigned.   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities   Language Read, write, and speak basic English Read and comprehend basic instructions and present information to others Read, interpret, and write routine reports and correspondence   Mathematical Basic counting skills                 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide simple numbers Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Specialized Office Equipment Operate multi-line phone to place, receive or transfer calls, or to retrieve voice mail messages. Specialized Kitchen Equipment Utilize, in a safe manner, kitchen equipment, such as knives, blenders, food choppers, slicers, and heating equipment. Other Required Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Effectively work and communicate with a wide range of individuals from all socio-economic groups, including senior adult residents and people with special needs, as well as family members. Read, interpret, and implement documents, such as governmental regulations, rules, and procedure manuals. Work with minimal supervision and effectively manage workflow. Supervise the work of others, while promoting teamwork and customer service. Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from residents and/or employees. Understand and follow both written and verbal instructions.   Essential Physical, mental, and Emotional Requirements   Employee must be at least 16 years of age. The employee must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and be able to work under time and/or deadline pressures. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand at least 90% of the shift; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, bend, squat, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally to frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally to frequently lift up to 20 pounds. The employee will frequently carry up to 12 pounds, occasionally to frequently carry up to 20 pounds, and occasionally push/pull up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required of this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Education and Experience   At least 6 months of experience in this field preferred Experience in large-scale cooking operation, with supervisory skills, is preferable Knowledge of large volume food service delivery systems     Supervision   This position reports to Food & Beverage Manager This position supervises the daily culinary team. The employee’s work is primarily assigned by daily workflow and operations.                The employee is authorized to make decisions as to the timing and sequence of work and the work is performed according to established policies and procedures and/or within applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing the tasks being performed.     Decisions   Impact of Decisions and Errors Made by Position Decisions and/or errors primarily affect other employees in the Communities, but on occasion may affect all employees.   Judgment Required in Decision-making Job duties typically involve frequently changing conditions and problems, requiring considerable judgment in applying factual background and fundamental principles to the development of approaches and techniques for the solution of problems.   Exception Authority This position cannot authorize exceptions to Corporate policy or procedure.   Personal Contacts   In an effective manner, this position maintains daily contact and interaction with the public, residents and resident family members, and coworkers. This position interacts with department managers and administrators on a daily basis.   Working Conditions   This position works in a temperature-controlled facility environment.
