Position Summary / Career Interest:

SHIFT IS DAYSHIFT ; MONDAY - FRIDAY

The Barista is responsible for making and serving beverages such as coffee and tea, and serving/preparing food such as sandwiches, muffins, fruit, or cookies. Ensures display cases are presented in an appealing manner to customers. The Barista explains menu items to customers, accepts orders, and handles payments. The Barista is continuously expanding knowledge of coffee beverage quality controls, preparation methods, and presentation. The position ensures a clean and sanitized work environment and displays a customer friendly attitude at all times.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

  • Welcome customers, inform them about specials or new items, answer questions, and accept orders and payments in coffee shops/cafes.

  • Prepare food, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and grind and blend coffee beans, brew coffee and tea, and serve items to customers.

  • Package food and beverages for sale.

  • Clean and restock work and dining areas, empty trash, push in chairs, and sanitize equipment and utensils.

  • Maintains food/product/supply quality and safety following HACCP and departmental standards.

  • Take inventory and replenish items in display cases, at tables, or behind the counter.

  • Provide excellent customer service.

  • Report safety hazards as well as equipment in need of repair.

  • Assist in other areas (Dishroom, Food Production, Cafeteria, etc.) as needed.

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High School Graduate or GED.

  • 1 or more years of experience in food handling customer facing positions.

  • 2 or more years of experience as a barista.

  • 2 or more years of experience in cash handling.


Knowledge Requirements

  • Basic math and counting skills.

  • Ability to read and communicate in English.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with a sense of urgency while maintaining great customer service.
