Job DetailsJob Location: KCK Office - Kansas City, KS 66101Position Type: Full TimeThe Lead Survey Technician - Field works with various members of the surveying project team to deliver on time and accurate survey projects. The work is done almost entirely in local field work locations, but there will also be short-term travel field assignments outside of the KC area a few times per year. QualificationsEssential Functions Able to adjust and operate surveying equipment to collect accurate and precise survey data that is reliable for design and construction projects Operates and utilizes all survey equipment - GPS and conventional in the performance of boundary, ALTA, topographic and engineering surveys Works from notes, sketches, maps, and other material to complete survey tasks with supervision Utilizes technology on boundary, ALTA, topographic and engineering surveys and provides guidance to other technicians Communicates with the Project Surveyor or Project Manager before, during and after completion of field work to properly relay information on field conditions on-site Begins to oversee and directs the work of other Survey Technicians Works with Project Surveyor to develop understanding of managing and monitoring schedules and project level financials Communicates with the client regularly to ensure satisfaction with work performed, and to overcome obstacles in the performance of field duties Responsible for clear, informative, and accurate field notes Under the direction of the Project Surveyor or Project Manager, begins to develop understanding of completing advanced analysis of survey data Works cooperatively with multiple crews Takes responsibility for the maintenance, repair, and welfare of all equipment in the field, including the work vehicle Trains or assists in training of less experienced staff and helps them resolve technical problems Brings field shots into CAD to process codes and line work prior to delivery to the survey drafting technician This position may have direct reports This position is regularly scheduled for 40 hours per week and will have overtime as needed Position Requirements Experience 6+ years survey crew experience preferred Demonstrated knowledge of field operations on boundary, ALTA, TOPO, & construction projects A valid drivers license must be maintained and insurable Survey operations and survey equipment experience is required Skills Advanced proficiency with data collectors and total stations (conventional and robotic) Physical working requirements: Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. Able to walk up/down stairs Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends Subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally Must understand algebra, trigonometry, and geometry Education A high school diploma or equivalent required Certified Survey Technician (CST) courses started or complete Geospatial industry degree preferred
