The purpose of this position inherently involves providing excellent medical care to our Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and phenomenal customer care to their owners. The Veterinary Assistant represents the mission and values to all clients. Our Veterinary Assistants set the tone for the technical and customer support in the hospital, and are responsible, like all team members, for fostering cohesion and motivation within the practice. Essential Job Functions include greeting clients and patients, escorting them into exam rooms, obtaining weight and vital signs, recording electronic medical records, assisting doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision, performing patient restraint, processing lab samples, handling medications, scheduling appointments, providing client education, preparing patients for surgical and dental procedures, assisting in anesthesia and monitoring, performing in-hospital treatments, maintaining patient care, assisting in training new staff, and keeping the hospital environment clean. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Communication with clients, veterinary specialists, and product/service providers is regular. Preferred qualifications include at least 1 year of veterinary or related animal care experience, excellent communication skills, compassion, professionalism, telephone and computer skills, and a team player attitude.
