About the Role

As a Maintenance Technician at Atlas Tube at Zekelman Industries, Kansas City, MO, this role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe repair and rebuild of tube mill production equipment. Reporting to the supervisor, this position focuses on maximizing equipment quality, uptime, rate, and yield. This role is ideal for individuals with strong electrical aptitude, advanced troubleshooting skills, and the ability to diagnose and resolve both electrical and mechanical issues while maintaining strict adherence to safety procedures.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform electrical maintenance on production equipment while following all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols

  • Verify all guards and safety devices are properly installed and functional before returning equipment to operation

  • Monitor inventory levels of parts, equipment, and supplies; place orders and verify receipts as needed

  • Utilize manual and computerized maintenance management systems to track, inspect, and report equipment status

  • Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and schematics to diagnose and repair equipment and machinery

  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and quality issues, escalating concerns when necessary

  • Perform breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and changeover tasks on production equipment

  • Must have work experience in working mechanically on hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, and PLC's

  • Identify and report safety, quality, operational, or output issues when unable to resolve independently

  • Observe mechanical devices in operation and use precision instruments to diagnose problems

  • Fabricate repair parts using machine shop tools and equipment

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with company policies and safety regulations

  • Operate powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, and portable cranes as required

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in problem-solving activities

  • Comply with OSHA safety standards, including hazard communication, lockout procedures, and ergonomic guidelines

  • Promote a culture of health and safety in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor

Who You Are

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably in a maintenance role

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred; apprenticeship, journeyman training, military service, or equivalent mechanical or electrical training preferred

  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, precision measuring devices, such as, micrometers, calipers, and interpretation of technical drawings

  • Strong mechanical experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and PLCs

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English and perform basic math calculations

  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment

  • Ability to pass job-related testing, an employment physical, and a post-offer drug screen

  • Strong teamwork skills with a collaborative and results-oriented mindset

Physical Abilities

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Stand or walk for extended periods throughout the work shift

  • Bend, twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, and reach in all directions as required

  • Perform additional physical demands as necessary to support job duties
