Description:

Position Purpose: 

At Pittsburgh Mercy, we believe in empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead fulfilling, independent lives. As a Residential Support Specialist, you’ll be a vital part of that mission—providing compassionate, person-centered care in a supportive home environment. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Personalized Support: Develop and implement individualized care plans that reflect each resident’s unique needs, goals, and preferences. 

  • Daily Living Assistance: Help residents with essential daily tasks such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and household responsibilities—encouraging independence every step of the way. 

  • Behavioral Support: Collaborate with the care team to implement positive behavioral strategies, creating a calm and respectful living environment. 

  • Community Engagement: Organize and participate in recreational outings, social events, and community activities to foster inclusion and connection. 

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare professionals, therapists, and fellow support staff to ensure a holistic, coordinated approach to care. Share observations and updates to support each resident’s progress. 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive an agency vehicle 

  • Reliable transportation for local travel 

  • Ability to pass Act 33/34/73 clearances 

  • Pre-employment drug screening, physical exam, and TB test 

  • Completion of Department of Public Welfare Medication Training within 90 days of hire
