About Newlands

Newlands Church is a growing, multi-site church in the Katy/Fulshear area serving thousands of people across our campuses. We exist to help people find and follow Jesus — and our staff exists to build environments where that happens weekend after weekend, and in the everyday rhythms of life.

About the Role

The Pastor of Next Steps is a people-first, ministry-facing role at the heart of how Newlands connects and grows its congregation. You’ll lead our Guest Experience and volunteer Build Team, oversee Groups ministry, and provide pastoral care — all while collaborating across the church to create environments where people take meaningful next steps in their faith.

What You’ll Do

Newlands Groups
  • Oversee the Group Build Team and leaders, including coaching and communication with coordinators
  • Input and organize current semester group data; archive previous semesters
  • Plan and execute group events each semester
  • Create and post sermon discussion guides during Groups seasons

Guest Experience
  • Build and maintain relationships with Guest Experience volunteers at all levels (Greeters, Ushers, Connect Central Hosts, Parking Team, and Weekend Prayer Team)
  • Recruit, teach, train, and mentor volunteers to support the Guest Experience Ministry
  • Lead, plan, and execute Guest Experience for weekend services and special events (e.g., Churchwide Baptism, Communion, Presbytery, Night of Worship)
  • Ensure prompt and accurate reporting of service logistics (attendance, altar response, and offering counts)
  • Coordinate First Time Guest and New Believer follow-up
  • Collaborate across departments (Worship, Kids, Facilities, CafĂ©, Security, etc.) to create a welcoming atmosphere

Build Team / Next Steps
  • Onboard all volunteers onto the Build Team
  • Lead Build Team Directors, Coordinators, and Coaches for weekend service teams
  • Administer Planning Center Services scheduling in conjunction with Build Team Directors

Pastoral
  • Provide pastoral care including biblical counseling, hospital visits, weddings, and funerals
  • Provide active leadership during weekend services

What We’re Looking For

  • 3–5 years of ministry experience, ideally in Guest Experience, Groups, or volunteer development
  • Bachelor’s degree in biblical, theological, or ministry studies preferred
  • Strong team-building and leadership skills with demonstrated experience in mediation and conflict resolution
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strategic thinker who stays aligned with leadership on major decisions and adapts well in a dynamic environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Planning Center Online, ProPresenter, Slack, and Basecamp
  • CPR Certification preferred or willingness to complete upon hire
  • Ministry Safe / Sexual Abuse Prevention training required
  • A growing personal relationship with Christ and alignment with our mission and values
