Police Officer & Police Cadet Opportunities:

Police Officer Starting Hourly Rate = $33.85/hr. - $42.32/hr.

Cadet Officer Starting Hourly Rate = $21.19/hr.

Katy Police Officers play a vital role in protecting life and property, preserving peace, enforcing laws, responding to emergencies, conducting investigations, and building strong relationships with the community. Officers patrol residential, commercial, and public areas; respond to calls for service; investigate criminal activity and collisions; prepare detailed reports; provide assistance to the public; and support emergency and critical incident operations.

For individuals beginning their law enforcement careers, the Police Cadet Program provides a pathway to becoming a Police Officer with the City of Katy. Qualified candidates who successfully complete the City's selection process-including interviews, background investigation, and required testing-may be selected to attend a TCOLE-certified Police Academy with certain training costs covered by the City, subject to applicable terms and conditions.

Covered academy-related expenses may include tuition, uniforms, books, supplies, equipment, and other required costs. Upon successful completion of the Academy and obtaining Texas Peace Officer certification, the candidate will become a City Probationary Police Officer, subject to all applicable City hiring, personnel, and Police Department requirements.

In return for the City's investment in their training, Police Cadet participants agree to remain employed as a classified Police Officer with the City of Katy for twenty-four (24) consecutive months following TCOLE certification, subject to the applicable program terms and conditions.

What We're Looking For

Whether joining as a Police Officer or entering through the Police Cadet Program, successful candidates should demonstrate:

  • A commitment to public service and community safety
  • Integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations
  • Physical readiness and the ability to meet applicable fitness and defensive tactics standards
  • A commitment to continuous training and professional development
  • The ability to work effectively in varied and sometimes hazardous environments

Police Officer candidates must meet applicable City hiring requirements, possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license, and obtain or maintain the required TCOLE certification.
