Administers policies, manages personnel and daily activities in the delivery of quality patient care within the area of responsibility. Maintains adequate inventories of supplies and reagents to perform testing. Assures adequate equipment is available, operational and performance monitored. Monitors current accreditation standards to ensure department compliance with all regulatory agencies. (CAP, JCAHO, NCCLS, CLIA, ASHI, OSHA, Federal Regulations, and AABB). Develops, plans and audits departmental goals and budget. Monitors and serves as a resource for activities related to physical plant, data processing, and educational training of students, and Departmental/Hospital committees.
Minimum RequirementsBS Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Biologic Science. A four- year degree is required for Managers of non-testing areas. For Anatomic Pathology Section Manager (ECUH Medical Center Lab), five years of direct related management experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Five (5) years of current/related clinical laboratory experience is required.
ECUH Medical Center Lab: Department specialty or area of concentration.
ECUH Community Hospitals: Generalist experience to include Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, and Blood Bank.
Two (2) years of supervisory experience in the laboratory or clinical setting is required.
Licensure/Certification: MLS/MT; HT/HTL (ASCP, AMT, HEW, or equivalent) certification is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical terms and medical laboratory tests.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Team building, interpersonal, and organizational skills to promote a power-with and cooperative working environment.
Proficient with personal computers and information systems relative to job duties.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and recommend action to be taken.

Ability to maintain composure in all situations, including guest, patient, and medical staff interactions and emergencies.
