 JOB SUMMARY:

This position applies appropriate welding processes to meet specifications, inspect and repair welds as needed to support the production and assembly of exhaust pipe components.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Handle materials and tools, set-up to complete appropriate weld processes and inspect all welds and products to assure weld specifications are met.
  • Perform as a team member of a cellular operating group, which requires the ability to learn, perform and rotate to other workstations within the cell.
  • Perform safety checks and preventative maintenance on welding equipment to assure good, safe working conditions and complete daily forms.
  • Apply appropriate welding process to weld and repair welds on parts per specifications.
  • Perform his/her job within acceptable safety, environmental, quality, productivity and performance standards as outlined in plant policies, handbooks and applicable work instructions.
  • Obtain supplies and parts required doing the job and performing proper setup of welding power supplies and controls.
  • Inspect all welds to assure each meets quality standards, troubleshoot problems and make adjustments as required.
  • Assist other employees in cell group when welding is not required
  • Clean welding station and maintain neatness in the surrounding work areas.
  • Assist the team in 5S advancements
  • Assist in the implementation of Lean Principles.
  • Overtime as required/requested. 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 year of previous MIG welding experience

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge and skills of five welding processes.  1) Fuel Gas, 2) Stick Electrode, 3) Gas Metal Arc, 4) Gas Tungsten Arc, 5) Resistance
  • Knowledge and proven ability to become weld-certified by the company
  • Ability to set up welder, apply appropriate weld process, inspect weld and make necessary adjustments
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, directions, charts, forms and safety regulations
  • Ability to correctly use and read various gauges
  • Ability to work well with other employees in a team concept

  • Flexibility to work long hours and other work schedules as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Extensive standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending over, reaching, twisting, arm wrist and hand motion, pushing, pulling
  • Manual dexterity
  • Good visual ability
  • Frequent skin exposure to chemical – based fluids such as coolant, drawing compounds, lubricating oils, etc

  • This job is performed on the production plant floor and may be performed in multiple machine areas/booths
  • Varying temperatures (cold to hot)
  • Infrequent exposure to outside weather environment
  • Fast – paced work environment
  • Small, confined space around some machines/equipment
  • Wet, slippery floors in some areas
  • Exposure to welding fumes and smoke in ventilated booth
  • Exposure to weld flash (weld helmet provided)
