The Avionics Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and optimal performance of aircraft electronic systems. This position involves the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics equipment and systems on various types of aircraft. The technician will work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to diagnose issues and implement effective solutions that comply with regulatory standards. A strong focus on precision and adherence to technical manuals and wiring diagrams is essential to maintain the integrity of flight controls and communication systems. Ultimately, the Avionics Technician contributes to the overall airworthiness of the aircraft, supporting safe and efficient flight operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with completion of an FAA-approved avionics technician training program.
  • Valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate or equivalent certification.
  • Proven experience working with aircraft avionics systems and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of wiring diagrams, soldering techniques, and electronic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and maintenance documentation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in avionics technology, electronics, or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced flight control systems and integrated avionics suites.
  • Familiarity with FAA regulations and compliance procedures beyond basic certification.
  • Proficiency in using computerized maintenance tracking systems.
  • Prior experience working in a commercial or military aviation maintenance environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on avionics systems including communication, navigation, radar, and flight control systems.
  • Interpret and work from wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals to install and troubleshoot avionics equipment accurately.
  • Conduct soldering and wiring tasks to ensure secure and reliable electrical connections within avionics assemblies.
  • Test avionics systems using specialized diagnostic equipment to identify malfunctions and verify repairs.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to document work performed and ensure compliance with FAA regulations and company standards.

Skills:

The required skills such as avionics systems knowledge, soldering, and interpreting wiring diagrams are applied daily to diagnose and repair complex aircraft electronic systems, ensuring their functionality and safety. Expertise in aircraft maintenance and avionics equipment allows the technician to perform precise installations and modifications while adhering to strict regulatory standards. Flight control system understanding is essential for troubleshooting and maintaining critical flight instruments and controls. Preferred skills like familiarity with advanced avionics suites and computerized maintenance systems enhance efficiency and accuracy in maintenance tasks.
