The Accounting Specialist II performs intermediate to advanced accounting functions to support the organization's financial operations. This position is responsible for processing and reconciling financial transactions, maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing reports, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities. The Accounting Specialist II exercises sound judgment, works independently on routine assignments, serves as a resource to Business Units and Acts as a liaison between Accounting Offices.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and timely.
  • Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and outstanding issues.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare recurring financial reports and account analyses.
  • Monitor vendor and customer accounts, resolving payment issues as needed.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and audit preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and applicable accounting regulations.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing requested documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
  • Cross-train with other accounting team members to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Provide Accounting guidance and assistance to employees when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience using ERP or accounting software systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Sage, or similar).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or multi-entity accounting.
  • Experience with financial reporting and fixed asset accounting.
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting and sales/use tax regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain seated and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically.
