Position Overview:

The Supervisor, Hazmat is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste within an assigned fulfillment center. This role serves as the site’s primary point of contact for regulated waste activities, supports Environmental Health & Safety programs, coordinates spill response, maintains required documentation, and partners with operations teams to promote a strong culture of safety and regulatory compliance. 

 

Location: Henrico, VA

Schedule: Day shift, other hours may be required based on business needs

Compensation: $75,000-85,000

 

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT, and local regulations related to hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal. 
  • Serve as the designated regulated waste representative for the site and coordinate the regulated waste program as directed. 
  • Identify, sort, designate, and package regulated waste from the production floor according to applicable regulations. 
  • Act as the point of contact for all site-generated spills and hazardous waste-related incidents. 
  • Manage and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), labeling, and other elements of the HazCom program. 
  • Conduct safety and compliance audits and inspections, document findings, and drive corrective actions. 
  • Train employees on proper chemical handling, storage, disposal practices, and spill response. 
  • Monitor Product Awaiting Determination (PAD) areas to ensure proper waste flow to designated dangerous goods storage areas. 
  • Coordinate with waste disposal service providers to ensure proper waste profile assignment, manifest accuracy, and shipment preparation. 
  • Investigate hazardous incidents and recommend corrective measures. 
  • Collaborate with warehouse operations teams to integrate hazardous waste protocols into daily workflows. 
  • Maintain inventory of spill response equipment and ensure appropriate personal protective equipment is available. 
  • Support ongoing improvement efforts in hazardous materials management across the fulfillment center.

Qualifications

Minimal Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • 2+ years of hazardous waste management experience, including waste profiling, chemical compatibility, and disposal. 
  • Working knowledge of RCRA and 40 CFR and 49 CFR regulations. 
  • Familiarity with MSDS/SDS interpretation and HazCom standards. 
  • Hands-on experience handling hazardous consumer goods such as flammable liquids, corrosives, aerosols, oxidizers, acids, and bases. 
  • Spill response knowledge and experience. 
  • 2+ years of safety and compliance auditing experience. 
  • 3+ years working with Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for shifts up to 12 hours. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, nights, holidays, and required overtime. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous 3PL experience, particularly in the e-commerce sector, is preferred.
