A police officer provides comprehensive law enforcement and security services to the University of WisconsināParkside community. Key Job Responsibilities:
- Performs preliminary and follow-up investigations to solve crimes, identify suspects and victims, apprehend criminals, and document case information
- Ensures the safe and orderly flow of traffic on institutional roadways and enforces traffic laws
- Provides personal safety and crime prevention education to institutional community
- Engages in problem solving, threat mitigation, and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues and incidents involving citizens, groups, campus entities, government agencies, businesses, leaders, and others
- Provides protection of life, property, and the preservation of peace and good order and provides emergency aid to the institutional community

Required Qualifications:
At least 21 years of age by application/appointment
United States citizen
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Completion of either an Associate Degree or a minimum of 60 fully accredited college-level credits
Completion of a Wisconsin Department of Justice approved "Law Enforcement Recruit" training course or already certified by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) as a Law Enforcement OfficerĀ
Possession of a valid driver's license with a good driving record
No felony or misdemeanor convictionsĀ
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in Higher Education
Experience engaging with individuals from varied cultural backgrounds
Knowledge of or the ability to learn the functions ofĀ campusĀ law enforcement operationsĀ
Customer service experienceĀ
Expectations:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully and professionally with students, staff, visitors, and the public
Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, including arrest procedures, search and seizure, evidence handling, and use-of-force standards, as well as relevant health and safety regulationsĀ
ProficiencyĀ in current investigative methods and practices.Ā
Ability toĀ observe, assess, and accurately recall details related to incidents, individuals, and environmentsĀ
Strong judgment and the ability to quickly evaluate situations and determineĀ appropriate actionsĀ
Ability to understand and follow complex written and verbal instructionsĀ
Proven capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively in high-pressure or emergency situationsĀ

A criminalĀ background check,Ā assessmentsĀ (psychological, physical,Ā andĀ agility), and pre-employmentĀ drug screening will be conducted on the finalist(s). In addition, if the final selected candidate has prior work history within the last 7 years with Universities of Wisconsin, a personnel file review check for employee misconduct will be completed. A twelve-month probationary period isĀ requiredĀ for this position.Ā
