We are looking for our next Mechanical and Piping Technician within our maintenance department. The Mechanical and Piping Technician will be responsible for maintenance and improvements of machines such as mechanical rotating equipment, conveying equipment, vibrating equipment, mechanical drives, and their support systems.

This position is located in Keokuk, IA.

Compensation:

The current hourly rate for this role is $31.05/hour. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation. The specific compensation offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

What You'll Do:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve mechanical and piping systems throughout the facility.
  • Work on rotating equipment, conveyors, vibrating equipment, mechanical drives, compressors, turbines, and related assets.
  • Install, modify, and repair piping systems including pipe, fittings, valves, tubing, spouts, chutes, and specialty piping materials.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, reactive, and emergency maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, contractors, and other stakeholders to identify and resolve equipment issues.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), technical drawings, and maintenance documentation.
  • Complete pipe fitting activities including socket weld, butt weld, threaded pipe, groove pipe, and stainless steel tubing installation.
  • Fabricate and repair components using sheet metal, CPVC, PVC, Fibercast, and other materials as required.
  • Execute rigging activities safely and effectively while supporting equipment installation and maintenance projects.
  • Document completed work, recommendations, and equipment findings accurately within maintenance systems and shop documentation.
  • Utilize SAP and other computerized maintenance systems to identify parts, track work activities, and support maintenance planning.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending upgrades to equipment, maintenance practices, and piping systems.
  • Assist in developing maintenance standards, work methods, and equipment installation practices.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and contribute to a safe, organized work environment.
  • Operate mobile equipment, including forklifts, aerial lifts, and carry-deck cranes, when qualified and required.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and plant operating standards.
  • Support team objectives and perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need

Experience

  • Commitment to adhering to all safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools and perform welding and rigging activities.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and P&IDs.
  • Experience maintaining rotating equipment such as turbines and compressors.
  • General lubrication knowledge and experience performing preventive maintenance activities.
  • Ability to perform emergent, reactive, and preventive maintenance lubrication tasks.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to perform assigned computer functions.
  • Ability to perform environmental and housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience assisting with mechanical methods, hardware selection, and system design improvements.
  • Ability to fit and install socket weld, butt weld, and threaded pipe.
  • Ability to run and bend stainless steel tubing.
  • Ability to install groove pipe systems.
  • Ability to fabricate and repair CPVC, PVC, and Fibercast piping systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certified rigger qualifications.
  • Ability to identify, recommend, and implement preventive maintenance improvements.
  • Strong documentation skills with the ability to clearly document completed work and recommendations.
  • Ability to perform basic sheet metal fabrication work, including guards and similar components.
  • Ability to complete assigned projects safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Ability to identify spare parts requirements and maintain inventory recommendations.
  • Experience using SAP or similar systems to locate mechanical and piping spare parts.
  • Commitment to following established repair standards and maintaining a clean work environment.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to perform physical job requirements, including lifting, climbing stairs, wearing required PPE, and working in indoor and outdoor industrial environments year-round.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; work in hot, cold and loud environments. 

Position Type

  • This is a full-time position.  Days and flexible hours of work are required to meet facility demands.
