Job Description
The Driver - Residential Trash is responsible for supporting key operations within the waste management and recycling industry. This role contributes to the organization’s success through strong execution, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and a commitment to safety, service quality, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Vehicle Operation
- Demonstrate strong vehicle control, including backing, turning, and maneuvering in tight or congested environments
- Comply with all applicable DOT, OSHA, and company safety policies and procedures
- Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip inspectionsÂ
- Utilize safe backing procedures, including coordination with helpersÂ
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment issues immediately
Route Execution & Productivity
- Complete routes safely, on time, and in accordance with service and productivity expectations Â
- Maintain route pace in high-volume environmentsÂ
- Follow route sheets and dispatcher instructionsÂ
Manual Collection & Team Coordination
- Ensure helpers follow safe work practices and company procedures while on route
- Work closely with helpers to collect and load waste into the truckÂ
- Assist with loading waste when neededÂ
- Ensure safe coordination with helpers, especially during backing operationsÂ
Customer Service & Site Standards
- Provide courteous service to residential customersÂ
- Ensure streets and collection areas are left clean and free of debrisÂ
- Report service issues or missed pickupsÂ
- Represent the company professionally at all times while in the field
Equipment Operation & Waste Handling
- Operate packer controls and loading mechanisms safelyÂ
- Identify and report unacceptable or hazardous wasteÂ
Documentation & Communication
- Complete DVIRs, route sheets, and required documentationÂ
- Maintain communication with dispatch throughout the shiftÂ
Safety & Compliance Expectations
Drivers are responsible for safe execution of their duties. The Safety Department provides training, standards, and oversight. Drivers must follow all safety procedures and actively participate in training.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Class A or B CDL with air brake endorsementÂ
- Valid DOT medical certificationÂ
- Ability to perform physically demanding workÂ
- Strong teamwork and communication skillsÂ
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year CDL experienceÂ
- Experience in residential or manual collection environmentsÂ
Physical Requirements
- Continuous climbing, walking, and manual laborÂ
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditionsÂ
Work Environment & Schedule
- Full-time, early morning startÂ
- Monday–Friday with occasional SaturdaysÂ
- Work performed in residential neighborhood
