As a National Security Solutions – Optical Engineering Intern, you will:

  • Support analysis of optical imaging data, including processing, filtering, and extraction of spectral or radiometric information.
  • Develop or enhance software tools for ingesting, storing, and analyzing system operating parameters.
  • Perform trend analysis and generate data visualizations to support system performance evaluation.
  • Assist with modeling and simulation of optical systems using numerical tools and established codes.
  • Compare image‑derived spectral characteristics with reference material libraries to assess aging or degradation effects.
  • Conduct technical literature reviews related to imaging systems, optical materials, and signal processing methods.
  • Document methods, results, and recommendations in technical notes and presentations.

Selected interns for this paid opportunity will be provided with the opportunity to mentor with experienced professionals, gain experience and establish a name for themselves in this high demand career field. 

Required Skillset:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with scientific programming tools such as Python or MATLAB.
  • Fundamental understanding of optical systems, image processing, or signal analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a technical environment.
  • Strong work ethics and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Scheduled Weekly Hours:   Average 40 hours per week, 10 weeks in duration during the period of Sumer 2026

Requirement:

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must pass a Security Pre-Screen and have the ability to obtain a security clearance.
