Strategic Insight, Ltd. is seeking a Combined Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Trainer (CIAT) Network Engineer in support of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) CIAT Network Technical Lead and Product Owner.  The Job location is Dahlgren, King George, VA.  This position is fully on-site with limited remote work.

The CIAT Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of the network infrastructure supporting the CIAT system. This role requires in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies, VMware virtualization, and scripting languages. The engineer will work independently and collaboratively to ensure the CIAT network is secure, reliable, and performs optimally to meet the demanding requirements of the training environment. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated problem-solver with a strong understanding of network architecture and a commitment to continuous learning.

Originally established in 1918 as a naval proving ground for testing gun weapon systems, NSWC Dahlgren Division has evolved to focus on advances in technology in Warfare Systems Development and Integration. The NSWC Dahlgren Division is a leading research, development, testing, and engineering (RDT&E) organization within the Department of the Navy.

Mandatory Requirement: Applicants selected for this position may be subject to a Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret clearance level.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design, configure, and manage Cisco ACI multi-tenant network environments.
  • Configure and maintain Cisco IOS/IOS-XE-based networking switches and routers.
  • Implement and manage Cisco Firepower-based firewalls.
  • Administer and support Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
  • Utilize VMware virtualization technologies, including configuring and managing standard and distributed virtual network switches.
  • Implement and maintain ACI virtual machine manager (VMM) network integrations.
  • Automate network tasks using scripting languages such as Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, and Python.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of CIAT system-of-systems architecture, IaaS components, and their interaction with the supporting networking systems.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux (primarily RHEL and Ubuntu) and Windows operating systems as they relate to network infrastructure components.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for network processes and configurations.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to resolve technical issues and share knowledge.
  • Troubleshoot complex network problems independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Participate actively in an Agile team environment.
  • Travel: Required to support CIAT system deployments and maintenance activities (<10%) 

Success for working in this position requires:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with, configuring, and managing Cisco ACI multi-tenant network environments.
  • Strong proficiency with Cisco IOS/IOS-XE-based networking switches and routers.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and managing Cisco Firepower-based firewalls.
  • Proficiency in administering and supporting Cisco ISE.
  • Familiarity with VMware, including VM configuration and experience with standard and distributed virtual network switches.
  • Understanding and experience with ACI virtual machine manager (VMM) network integrations.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Ansible, PowerShell, Bash, and Python.
  • Comprehensive understanding of system of systems concepts, IaaS, and complex system architectures.
  • Experience with Linux (RHEL and Ubuntu) and Windows operating systems.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex problems independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Ability to work with sensitive and classified information.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence, discretion, and personal initiative.
  • Self-starter, goal oriented, provides timely feedback on progress made on assignments.
  • Excellent oral, written, and telephone communication skills.

Desired Skills

  • Aegis Weapon System tactical networking knowledge in BL9 or BL10.
  • Cisco, VMware, and/or other networking-focused certifications.
  • Programming or development experience with network configuration using SDN.
  • Experience with network source code repositories for configuration management.

 Education and Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of general and specific experience as defined below.
  • Experience necessary to design, develop and maintain complex, real-time engineering systems, networks, capabilities, and activities. 
  • Experience includes C++ software development and maintenance, and software integration testing. 
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining network development schedules and monitoring the technical progress of module development toward these schedules. 
  • Demonstrated experience in utilizing computer program development tracking tools that capture all new development requirements, tracks computer program defects, accurately reflects current implementation status of each item, and job estimation activities. 
  • Experience necessary with network engineering relative to system engineering computer program development and modeling and simulation. 
  • Demonstrated experience with identifying problems, suggesting changes, and approximating extent of programming and coding required. 
  • Demonstrate experience with analyzing test runs on computer to correct or direct correction of coded program and input data. 
  • Demonstrated experience revising existing programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing some computer program documentation.
