In support of the U.S. Navy’s PEO IWS-X initiative, the Senior Technical Writer / Configuration Manager (CM) develops clear, accurate technical documentation—including procedures, build instructions, and contract deliverables—for the project.

This role also manages configuration documentation and version control, ensuring compliance with U.S. Government (USG) export control laws, Foreign Military Sales (FMS) requirements, and program standards.

This role is ideal for a proactive problem-solver with a strong technical foundation and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain technical procedures, build instructions, and user manuals for KVM-based virtualization, system security integration, and the F127 Combat System Compute Infrastructure (CI).
  • Create and manage contract deliverables, ensuring compliance with program requirements and export control regulations.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and program managers to gather technical information and translate it into user-friendly documentation.
  • Manage configuration documentation and version control, ensuring updates are accurately tracked and implemented.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with applicable standards, including USG export control laws and FMS requirements.
  • Review and edit technical content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Support the development of training materials and presentations for system deployment and integration activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, technical writing, liberal arts, or related field; technical background preferred.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance is required.
  • Must be able to commute to the Dahlgren, VA area on a daily basis.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing or configuration management, ideally in defense or high-security environments.
  • Familiarity with documentation standards for defense.
  • Experience with version control systems and configuration management tools.

Skills:

  • Exceptional analytical and logical thinking abilities, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in documentation tools (e.g., MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, Visio) and configuration management systems.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise documentation.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Background in systems engineering, software development, or hardware systems is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
