The Opportunity:

CACI is seeking a Junior Systems Engineer who will provide Naval Weapon Systems Command, Control, and Intelligence (ECCI) Element software and requirements engineering assistance as well as technical acumen for Combat Control programs, including the USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000) program.  In this role, you will support and assess the state of the Zumwalt Combat System for its shipboard usage and mission readiness. 

Responsibilities:

  • Research ECCI component functionality, as well as related Element and Component functionality, using the various requirements databases and artifacts.  Report the analysis findings. 

  • Review and analyze assigned software issues (bugs) and Software Change Requests (SCRs).  Provide a concise statement of Operational Impact, Mitigation/Workaround (if applicable), Severity (Priority/Probability), Initial Operational Capability (IOC) Importance, Test Importance, Test Site (if applicable), as well as other information requested via Action Items (AIs).

  • Review and analyze assigned Specification Changes (SCs), Interface Description Requests (IDRs), Change Proposals, New Capability presentations, Verification Items (VIs), Integration Stories (ISs), Test Cases (TCs), and other engineering documents and artifacts.

  • Conduct engineering analysis and provide assessment of Zumwalt ECCI software issues for the Mission Readiness Assessment (MRA) board, Mission Readiness Review (MRR) boards, Combat System Certification Panel (CSCP), and various mission assessment events. 

  •  Assess Applicability; Issue and Impact; Limitation, including any mitigation, recovery, or workaround an operator can use to either avoid or recover from the issue, or the issue’s potential impact to the operator or capability; and overall grouping impacting the mission event.

  • Produce, review, and/or update required Zumwalt ECCI status reports and progress reports.

  • Provide software engineering analysis for various coordination meetings, software development reviews, design reviews, Safety, and Software Review Boards (SRBs).

  • Aid with the Zumwalt Navy Independent Test (NIT) or other software certification/test/performance events, which may include on-site assistance.

  • Identify, investigate, analyze, and resolve problems encountered during Zumwalt ECCI testing.

  • Provide element/system knowledge to assist others as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Science, or Technology.

  • Working knowledge of engineering techniques, logic, and mathematical methods to improve the decision and decision-making process.

  • Understanding of the engineering process, system engineering principles, and technical processes.

  • Understanding of user needs, analysis/breakdown, task allocation, and solution design/creation/testing.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products, model-based system engineering (MBSE) tools, and collaboration tools.

  • Willing to work on site in King George, VA

  • Willing and able to obtain and maintain, at minimum, a Secret Level Security Clearance. Current and Active Secret Security Clearance is a plus.

Desired:

  • Active Secret Security Clearance is a plus.

  • Experience with United States Navy (USN), or other armed forces.

  • Experience with Zumwalt Combat System or other Combat Systems.

  • Ability to think critically to reason out impacts to other systems

  • Knowledge/experience with Sensors or Track Management

  • Logical, detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Defense contracting or military experience

  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and with team members
