We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Protection Engineer to join our Engineering Services team. As a Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable and secure operation of power systems by designing, testing, implementing, and effective protection and control schemes. Your expertise in relay protection and controls, relay coordination, and power systems will provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.Â
As a Protection Engineer, a typical day might include the following: Â
- Possesses, understands and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of power system focus area and related SEL products.
- Train and assist customers with the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems.
- Complete and implement assigned work within agreed upon scope, schedule and budget to a high level of quality and safety.
- Participate in the preparation of functional design specifications.
- Prepare and maintain detailed design documents, reports, checklists, test reports, and deliverables.
- Following and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles. Â
This position will consider candidates from an Associate to Project Engineering III level.
This job might be for you if: Â
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline
- 2+ years relevant application experience with electric power systems, industry practices
- Good knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration and/or automation and communications applications
- Working knowledge of electric power system design, studies, information and communication technology and protective relay applications
- Willing to travel both domestically and internationally a minimum of 25% based on focus area
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training certificate
- Electrical utility, industrial plant, consulting engineering, or system integrator experience
- Project engineering experience
- Working knowledge of Vision or other project management tracking software

Pay Range DataÂ
$97,700 - $144,400
We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level. Our ranges are determined by job and responsibility. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.Â
