Arxada is looking for a Chemist that  Performs tasks and testing in support of the manufacturing plant, wastewater operations, logistics, and quality department. Maintains and reviews laboratory records in compliance with ISO 9001 and EFfCI. This  role is located in Mapleton, IL.

The expected salary range for this union role is 37.44 an hour. Actual compensation may vary depending on experience, education, training, certification, location, and other job‑related, non‑discriminatory factors permitted by law. [

This role is also eligible to earn a short‑term incentive bonus and the following benefits: 401(k) plan, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, and paid sick leave.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Comply with all corporate and plant policies, procedures, guidelines, and work instructions pertaining to safety; and attend all mandatory safety meetings and training sessions (includes wearing proper PPE)
  • Performs routine and non-routine laboratory tests in an accurate and timely manner and records results of analyses in the appropriate logbooks and systems
  • Ensure GDP is used within Quality meeting ALCOA standards, data accuracy, data integrity, legible, contemporaneous (recorded at time of event), original, and identifiable
  • Conducts tasks in accordance with appropriate standard operating procedure, work instruction, etc.
  • Fills in gaps in the shift and wastewater schedule as needed including 12 hour shifts, overnight, and weekend
  • Product release including packaging, raw materials, finished products, and bulk shipments
  • Perform calibrations and ISO 9001 checks (daily and monthly)
  • Perform weekly ISO 9001 checks every Tuesday as needed
  • Identifies areas of improvement within the Quality department
  • Creates batch numbers in SAP for the release of products for packaging and bulk shipments
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and consumables (i.e. gas cylinders)
  • Perform data review and verification
  • Utilize and maintain proper housekeeping in your work area
  • Maintains and calibrates analytical instrumentation and reagents according to written procedures and schedules as needed
  • Makes, backfills, and restocks reagents and standards as needed
  • Supports waste water testing as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 3-5 years experience in a lab setting
  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry or other science discipline
  • Medical First Responder certification (or ability to obtain within 1 year) preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Reliable time-management skills and the experience to organize and coordinate multiple projects at once
  • Wet Chemistry, HPLC, GC, Auto-titrator, COD experience preferred
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office and other office productivity tools, with quickness to learn new software and systems
