Assistant or Associate Professor of Criminal Justice 

Texas A&M University-Kingsville 

The Department of History, Political Science, and Philosophy at Texas A&M University-Kingsville invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Criminal Justice position beginning Fall 2026. 

 

About the Program: 

The Criminal Justice program serves approximately 190 majors and offers a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum preparing students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, courts, and related fields. We seek a dedicated educator and scholar who will contribute to our program's continued growth and excellence. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Teach eight undergraduate courses per academic year (4/4 teaching load) across the Criminal Justice curriculum 

  • Develop and deliver engaging courses that may include criminology, policing, corrections, criminal law, juvenile justice, research methods, and other areas based on departmental needs and candidate expertise 

  • Engage in scholarly research and publication appropriate to rank 

  • Advise and mentor undergraduate students 

  • Participate in department, college, and university service 

  • Preference given to candidates who can advise student organizations or coordinate the internship program 

  • Develop new courses to enhance curriculum offerings 

 

Minimum Requirements: 

For Assistant Professor: 

  • ABD or Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related field (Ph.D. must be completed by start date) 

  • Evidence of teaching excellence or strong potential for effective teaching 

  • Demonstrated commitment to scholarly activity 

For Associate Professor: 

  • Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related field 

  • Strong record of teaching excellence at the college level 

  • Established record of scholarly research and publication 

  • Evidence of service to the profession 

 

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Experience or interest in advising student organizations 

  • Experience coordinating internship programs 

  • Ability to teach in specialized areas of criminal justice
