POSITION DESCRIPTION

This position ensures compliance with Adult Protection and Child Welfare practice in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines. Advisor also performs duties of a Protective Services Caseworker as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under direct supervision of the Protective Services Administrator.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the Protective Services Advisor position and do not include other general duties that may be required.

• Implementation of Child Protective and Adult Protective Services consistent with State rules and regulations

• Meets individually with caseworkers weekly to provide support, guidance, and coaching; ensure accuracy and timeliness of assessments and cases; assist in connecting caseworkers with appropriate resources, training, and other supports; communicates identified trends or support needs to Protective Services Administrator

• Participates in Administrative Review Division (ARD) review processes and assists with preparation, follow-up, and implementation of identified recommendations or needed actions

• Performs designated supervisory review and approval functions within Trails and CAPS to ensure required documentation, actions, and approvals are completed accurately and timely

• Lead Red Team referral discussions as needed, facilitating collaborative review and discussions to support informed decision-making regarding referrals

• Attend court hearings in support of Protective Services Caseworkers

• Assist with staff performance reviews and professional growth plans

• Provide scheduled on-call coverage to include after-hours, county closures, weekends, and holidays

• Perform Protective Services Caseworker duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

• Advanced knowledge of investigative and interviewing techniques and procedures

• Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations

• Ability to record and present accurate documentation in oral and written form

• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with a variety of individuals and agencies

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing under strict timeframes

EDUCATION AND EXPERTISE

• A bachelor’s degree or higher with an equivalent of thirty semester or forty-five quarter hours in human behavioral sciences or health care-related courses related to the job responsibilities of a protective services caseworker

• A minimum of four years of professional casework, case management, or human services experience in a public or private human services agency, preferably as a certified caseworker in a county or state human services agency

• A master’s degree or higher in social work or human behavioral sciences and two years of professional caseworker, case management, or human services experience in a public or private human services agency

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle driver’s license issued by the State of Colorado and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record

• Possession of or the ability to obtain within six months from the date of hire, the State of Colorado Child Protection Caseworker and Supervisor Certification as classified by Volume 7

• Possession of or the ability to obtain within one year from the date of hire, the State of Colorado Adult Protection Caseworker and Supervisor Certification as classified by Volume 30

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to sit, stand, or travel for long periods of time. Must be able to negotiate up and down stairs and on rough and/or uneven terrain

• Must be able to travel to and from various work sites by car

• Must be able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, reach, kneel, crawl, squat, climb, and balance

• Must be able to climb ladders or stairs or climb up to and down from higher levels using unconventional methods

• Must be capable of working under stressful conditions

• Must have good cognitive skills and awareness of work accuracy

• Must have the ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time, and to make independent decisions

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Candidate must pass a pre-employment background screening including a pre-employment drug screen, CBI/FBI fingerprint-based background check, Human Services (Child Protection and Adult Protection) background check

• Bilingual in Spanish preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Travel within the greater Metropolitan Denver is required

o Some out-of-state or overnight travel may also be required

• Work is performed both in an office setting and off-site

• Candidate may encounter angry or hostile clients and unsafe conditions in homes
