Program Summary

Wraparound with Intensive Services (WISe) is an approach to helping Medicaid-eligible children, youth, and families with intensive behavioral and mental health care needs. The program's goal is to help youth thrive with their natural supports in homes and communities, and assist in helping them meet the goals they have identified. Services are based on the individualized need of the child or youth.



Position Summary

Youth Eastside Services (YES) is currently looking for a Parent Partner Counselor to join the Children's Wrap Around with Intensive Services program (WISe)! We are looking for someone who can work as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide an individualized, creative, and strength-based approach within the wraparound model. The WISe Parent Partner Counselor utilizes their own experiences as the parent/caregiver of a youth who has experienced significant emotional or behavioral issues and involvement in one or more child-serving systems, to deliver direct supportive services to parents/caregivers of youth referred to or receiving wraparound services. The Parent Partner Counselor ensures that parent/caregiver and/or family voice and choice are understood, and their needs are addressed and met. Connects families to support and resources within their community and wraparound process. Advocates for family needs within the team and community. 

 

The WISe Parent Partner Counselor provides comprehensive support services assisting children, youth, and families in coping with complex behavior and mental health needs. In a team framework, the Parent Partner Counselor collaborates with a Mental Health Therapist, Care Coordinator, and Youth Peer Counselor to identify goals, assess needs, and coordinate access to community resources. In addition, the Parent Peer Partner will conduct outreach and provide services to parents/caregivers and/or families in their homes or other convenient community locations. 

 

Reporting to the WISe Program Manager, the Parent Partner Counselor will carry out the position's responsibilities as defined below under Primary Job Functions.

Primary Job Functions

  • Knowledge of child development, behavior management, parenting techniques, and culturally diverse families.
  • Acceptance of various lifestyles, behaviors, cultural, and spiritual practices.
  • Lived experience navigating social resource systems. Willingness to share lived experience as a means of providing hope and support to parents/caregivers in challenging circumstances.
  • Promote self-determination, personal responsibility, empowerment for recovery and wellness, and support parents/caregivers in advocating for themselves and their children.
  • Engage parents and families in the Wraparound process by sharing personal experience and/or explaining the Wraparound process about the family's identified needs and concerns.
  • Act as a navigator between families and system representatives on the team.
  • Aid in creating Care Plans by identifying relevant community resources and developing strategies to utilize and build upon the strengths of the caregiver and youth.
  • Collaborate with the WISe team to promote a culture within which client/family's voice, point of view, experience, and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and maximized client decision-making.
  • Support parents/caregivers in gaining skills to advocate for themselves in treatment planning and other system settings.
  • Assist families in identifying existing and building a new community and natural supports.
  • Identify opportunities for natural support to participate in the Wraparound team planning process.
  • Support parents/caregivers during child and family team meetings.
  • Provide resource referrals and linkages to parents/caregivers and system partners.
  • Aid families in navigating systems to have their needs met.
  • As appropriate, partner with CFT by providing short-term intensive care coordination and facilitating family collaboration with hospitals or other crisis providers.
  • Facilitate Wraparound team meetings as needed.
  • Attend monthly KCPPN meetings facilitated by King County Parent Support Specialist and assist in coordination as needed.
  • Partner with system-of-care representatives to promote family involvement on all levels of care, service delivery, and policy development.
  • Attend and participate in clinical consultation, staff meetings, and supervision appointments.
  • Maintain complete and timely clinical documentation, including gathering data in accordance with agency standards, policies, and procedures
  • Participate in supervision with the WISe Program Manager.



Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural
    situations.
  • Strong ability to work with a diverse Eastside community, including race, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQ+, religious, socio-economic status, etc.
  • Experience working with vulnerable children, youth, and families. 
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Customer service mindset.
  • Aptitude to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workload, complete assigned tasks, and maintain poise under pressure.
  • Dependable, receptive to change, willingness to learn, cooperative approach to problem-solving, flexible team player.
  • Effectively work in both a team environment and independently. 
  • Computer literate and able to use Electronic Health Records (EHR), telehealth, and other software programs with basic training.



Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; AA or BA Degree in a behavioral science field preferred.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Certified Peer Counselor credentialed (training available).
  • Clearance fingerprints and any other state or federal requirements.
  • Mush have own vehicle, valid Washington Driver's License w/proof of auto insurance.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Robust organizational, coordination, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual and bicultural skills are a plus!
  • Experience in WISe or other WRAP programs is a plus!
  • Must maintain a flexible schedule to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Creativity and flexibility are essential in assuming significant responsibility. 
  • Experience working in racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse urban communities preferred.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain both client and employee confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, contract requirements, or other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Experience advocating for and partnering with parents/caregivers of multi-systems involved children.
  • Knowledge of and experience with crisis planning, Wraparound model, and strengths-based model
  • Ability to maintain awareness of culturally relevant issues while interacting with children, families, co-workers, and community members.
  • Lived experience addressing a behavioral health diagnosis required.
  • Understanding of child development and basic understanding of psycho-pharmacology



Physical / Working Requirements

  •  Work in general office, in home-visiting, and the community conditions 
  • Travel throughout Eastside King County w/ mileage reimbursement
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and driving
  • Ability to use hands and handle objects 
  • Adequate vision and hearing is necessary for duties
  • Occasional pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds
  • Speaking/talking on the telephone, telehealth, and in-person 
  • Ability to travel and work in multiple settings 
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours and adjust work schedule to meet business needs.
