Under the direction of the Vice President / Chief Financial Officer, the Procurement Manager is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing raw materials, components, and services required for metal tubing and welding manufacturing operations as well as non-production acquisitions. This role ensures cost-effective procurement while maintaining quality standards, supplier reliability, and production continuity. The Procurement Manager works closely with sales, production, engineering, quality, and warehouse teams to support operational efficiency and strategic growth.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with company goals and production demandsÂ
• Source and manage suppliers for raw materials such as steel tubing, sheet metal, welding consumables, gases, and fabrication components as well as non-production purchases
• Support sales through finding new suppliers, if applicable, and negotiating best cost during quoting process
• Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors to achieve cost savings and favorable agreementsÂ
• Monitor supplier performance, including quality, delivery, and compliance with specifications ensuring lead times are met
• Serve as an escalation point for critical supplier or stakeholder issues, resolving challenges thoughtfully and effectively
• Collaborate with production planning to ensure timely availability of materials and prevent downtimeÂ
• Maintain optimal inventory levels while minimizing excess and obsolete stockÂ
• Analyze market trends, pricing, and supply risks (e.g., steel price fluctuations, supply chain disruptions)Â
• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirementsÂ
• Manage procurement budgets and track cost savings initiativesÂ
• Lead and develop procurement staff, if applicableÂ
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across supply chain and operationsÂ
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related fieldÂ
• 5+ years of procurement experience in manufacturing, preferably in metal fabrication, tubing, or welding environmentsÂ
• Strong knowledge of raw materials (carbon steel, stainless steel) and welding suppliesÂ
• Proven negotiation and contract management skillsÂ
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar)Â
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesÂ
Preferred Qualifications
• Professional certification (e.g., CPSM, CPM)Â
• Experience in lean manufacturing or just-in-time (JIT) inventory systemsÂ
• Knowledge of ISO quality standards and compliance requirementsÂ
• Familiarity with global sourcing and import/export regulationsÂ
