THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Medical Administrative Specialist 2 provides billing support to the UT Internal Medicine & OB/GYN Resident Clinic. This position handles accounts receivable matters such as coding, billing, financial counseling, charges and payments, follow-up on claim denials, care reporting, proper code selection, etc. 

Responsibilities

  1. Inputs entries of related charges for Internal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN).
  2. Ensures information is in accordance with billing methods as set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the College of Medicine (COM).
  3. Enters payments and conducts electronic posting of payments through Centricity Practice Solution: Practice Management (CPS PM) billing module.
  4. Evaluates the International Classification of Disease (ICD 10) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding prior to billing and receive clarity from physicians, when necessary.
  5. Completes outstanding accounts receivables by inquiring on claims denials and insurance matters.
  6. Ensures the accuracy of weekly deposits.
  7. Assesses Episodes of Care for errors and omissions.
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:  High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of billing experience; OR Associate’s Degree and one (1) year of experience. Knowledge of Episodes of Care and Quality is required. (Certified coding experience preferred). 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to learn Powerchart and Intergy EMR systems.
  • Ability to prioritize and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a keen attention to detail, proficiency with word processing programs, calculator, and hospital based EMR.
  • Proficient skills in ICD10 and CPT coding.
  • Basic skills in computer data entry.
  • Excellent telephone skills.
