Job Summary and Description:

EPRI is seeking a Power Systems Test Engineer to support laboratory testing, instrumentation, and data acquisition activities within its Critical Power Program. This role is responsible for designing and maintaining laboratory test setups, executing test procedures, collecting and analyzing data, and supporting research initiatives focused on electric utility distribution and commercial power system technologies. The successful candidate will combine strong hands-on technical abilities with analytical problem-solving skills and will work closely with EPRI researchers, engineers, industry members, and project teams to support the development and execution of innovative research.

Key Responsibilities:

Laboratory Testing & Instrumentation

  • Design, build, modify, and maintain laboratory test setups for power system, energy storage, and backup power system projects.

  • Install, configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation, sensors, and measurement systems.

  • Perform testing activities in accordance with established procedures and research objectives.

  • Ensure accurate and reliable collection of test data.

Data Acquisition & Analysis

  • Operate and maintain data acquisition systems and measurement equipment.

  • Organize, manage, and document test results and research data.

  • Conduct technical analyses and support interpretation of test results.

  • Perform technical research and information gathering to support project objectives.

  • Generate test reports and present results to the customer.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.

  • 2–6 years of experience in laboratory testing, instrumentation, data acquisition, or related engineering activities.

  • Experience using electrical test and measurement equipment.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and hands-on technical skills.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision while collaborating effectively within a team environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite and other Window’s based applications like Visio, Matlab, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with electric utility equipment, power systems, or distribution system technologies.

  • Familiarity with sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition platforms.

  • Experience supporting laboratory-based research and development projects.

  • Mechanical aptitude and experience assembling or modifying test fixtures and laboratory equipment.

  • Experience preparing technical reports, presentations, or research documentation.

  • Active TS or Q security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) or ability to obtain a security clearance is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $79,500 USD to $84,500 USD annually.

This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
