POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Hospice Medical Director oversees clinical operations, ensuring quality medical care for hospice patients. This role provides leadership to the interdisciplinary team and promotes collaboration among medical and nursing staff. A few position highlights include:

· Oversee the management of medical services for the hospice program, ensuring comprehensive care for hospice patients, including medical diagnosis, prognosis, medication management, procedures, and clinical progression.

· Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among agency staff, volunteers, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, vendors, and other relevant departments and professionals.

· Evaluate cases through methods such as home visits, conferences, and record reviews; consult with attending physicians as necessary.

· Review and sign orders for medications, procedures, terminal illness certification and recertification, changes in level of care, and other supplemental orders in accordance with State and Federal guidelines.

· Maintain thorough knowledge of State and Federal medical practice regulations and hospice standards, serving as a resource for organization personnel and local medical professionals.

· Comply with all policies, standards, and regulatory requirements regarding patient care, professional conduct, safety, infection control, fire prevention, security, and risk management.

· Provide leadership and education to staff and community members through in-services, case conferences, and group discussions focusing on hospice philosophy, criteria, medical services, and pain/symptom management.

· Provide services within the scope of practice as defined by the state laws governing the practice of nursing, initiates and coordinates the plan of care, collaborates with the patient/family, attending physician and other members of the IDG in providing patient and family care daily.

THE MUST HAVES:

· Current unencumbered Doctorate of Medicine (MD) in the state where services are rendered.

· Three (3) years of relevant MD experience, with at least two (2) years as a Hospice MD.

· Certification in hospice and palliative medicine is desirable.

· Must have the authority to prescribe in the state where services are provided. Must have obtained Medicare billing privileges.

· Must meet restrictive collaborative requirements specific to state assigned to work and supply a copy of all active collaborating physician agreements and indicate whether these will be transferable to your employment.

· Current CPR certification, driver's License, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation.

· Must be able to reliably commute within the geographic area assigned.
