Engineering Technician, Plastics Mold Shop

Location: Onsite – Kohler, WI

Opportunity

 Join Kohler’s Plastics Mold Shop and play a key role in building thefiberglass molds, thermoforming tools, fixtures, and jigs that support KOHLER’sindustry-leading acrylic bathing products. This is a hands-on fabrication roledesigned for technicians who enjoy craftsmanship, problem-solving, and buildinghigh-quality production tooling.

What You’ll Do

  • Build prototype, development, and production-grade tooling, including high‑gloss gelcoat molds, polyester thermoforming molds, and metal jigs & fixtures.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to create prototype parts made of wood, metal, or composite materials that facilitate the development of new processes and products.
  • Perform fiberglass layup, gelcoat work, sanding, finishing, and mold surface preparation.
  • Additional activities encompass woodworking, metal fabrication, welding, and the application of pneumatics.
  • Collect and record test data during product performance testing.
  • Mentor and train other Mold Shop technicians.
  • Provide on-site support at Kohler Plastics Plants (TX, AR, BC) during equipment startups and troubleshooting (occasional travel 1 - 4 times per year).

Skills/Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree in an engineering-related field or 5+ years of hands‑on fabrication shop experience.
  •  Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • High-level construction skills for building fixtures and tooling.
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following:
    • Woodworking for models and patterns
    • Metalworking and welding for tooling fabrication
    • Fiberglass laminating for building masters and molds
  • Willingness to learn and grow in all proficiencies with on-the-job training.

 Preferred Skills

  • Experience with FRP composites, thermoforming tooling, or plastics manufacturing.
  • Strong craftsmanship, attention to detail, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
