Overview
Ā FLSA: Non-Exempt This is a bookkeeping and accounting position in the Sheriļ¬'s Oļ¬ce, involving keeping accounts of and tracking monies entrusted to the department. Employee works under moderate supervision of the Chief Deputy and Oļ¬ce Operations Supervisor and exercises independent judgment after having learned the job duties.

Collects inmate monies each day and prepares daily deposit.
Issues checks to inmates upon their release on a daily basis of any monies remaining in that inmates account.
Maintains accounting records of monies received and disbursed for Civil Process, and all prisoners in accordance with prescribed statutes rules, regulations and procedures.
Prepares and reconciles statements, claims, invoices, receipts, inventories, disbursements, refunds.
Posts to ledger accounts; takes trial balances; prepares month-end balances, month- end reports and refunds; checks expense accounts and other records; balances and deposits monies.
Checks departmental accounts for accuracy.
Keeps records on multiple computerized systems; accesses, inputs and retrieves data on multiple manual and computerized systems; makes reconciliation of multiple accounts with detailed records and makes reports.
Answers phone, types correspondence, ļ¬les information relating to above duties.
In this public service position, employee is required to be courteous, cooperative and respectful at all times, with the public and clients. Also establishes and maintains a courteous, cooperative and respectful working relationship with other employees, supervisors and public oļ¬cials.
Physical demands: Majority of time: Sits at desk, uses hearing, near vision and ļ¬ngering for keyboarding, word processing, computers, calculators or other oļ¬ceĀ machines. Frequently talks to clients, callers, department staļ¬. Sits, stands, bends, reaches, moves about the oļ¬ce, and gets up to wait on counter/stands at counter intermittently throughout the day. Handles papers and manuals, etc., lift ļ¬les, copy paper and other oļ¬ce materials.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and processes of bookkeeping and the principles of budgetary accounting.
Ability to input, access and retrieve information on a computerized system, and produce accurate computerized records, reports and spreadsheets.
Ability to make decisions in accordance with laws and policies.
Ability to make rapid mathematical computations either manually or by machine.
Skills and ability in the operation and care of calculating machines, computers, copiers and other oļ¬ce equipment.
Knowledge of up-to-date oļ¬ce methods, machines and procedures.Ā Ā Ability to enter data accurately and eļ¬ciently.
Ability to compose oļ¬ce correspondence.
Ability to work with the public to answer questions, give oral and sometimes complex directions, take complaints, refer to proper departments, explain procedures.
Ability to work with conļ¬dential matters and maintain conļ¬dentiality.
Training, Experience and Other Requirements
Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related.
Experience in ļ¬nancial record-keeping including accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash receipting.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Meticulous attention to detail.
Proven proļ¬ciency and expertise in using Excel spreadsheets, MS Word and MS Outlook.
Must have good character and pass background check acceptable for working in law enforcement and be bondable.
May consider other combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job duties.
