Job Title: CAD Intern

Location: WalzCraft – La Crosse, WI

Job Type: Internship (Part-Time – 24 Hours per Week)

Reports To: CAD Supervisor / Engineering Leader

Description

The CAD Intern is a developing design professional responsible for learning and supporting the creation of computer-aided design (CAD) drawings used in the production of WalzCraft products. This role provides hands-on experience with drafting standards, product design, and the integration of CAD work into manufacturing processes.

Through a structured 8-week training program, the CAD Intern will learn how to produce approval and production drawings for various doors, drawer components, and millwork features while gaining exposure to CNC router programming processes. The ideal candidate demonstrates curiosity, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to WalzCraft’s Core Values—approaching every task with a Be Positive attitude, ensuring quality through Measure Twice for Accuracy, seeking opportunities to Be Value Added, and showing initiative through the R.a.W. (Results and Work Ethic) mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

• Learn and apply WalzCraft CAD standards, file management procedures, and workflow processes while maintaining a Measure Twice for Accuracy approach to all drafting work.

• Create drawings that fulfill customer requirements while applying WalzCraft’s drafting standards and accuracy expectations.

• Learn to complete production documentation such as cutsheets and ensure manufacturing details are clearly communicated.

• Participate in training on CNC router workflows, including Mastercam basics, router tool identification, and router geometry assignments.

• Assist with posting router jobs and preparing files for template routing, valence routing, and mullion routing as part of the manufacturing process.

• Collaborate with CAD team members, engineering staff, and production teams while maintaining a Be Positive and team-oriented approach to learning and problem solving.

• Identify opportunities to improve drafting efficiency, drawing clarity, and internal processes while striving to Be Value Added in daily work and training activities.

• Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and a strong work ethic while learning new skills and supporting team initiatives in alignment with WalzCraft’s R.a.W. mindset.

Qualifications & Skills:

• High school diploma or current enrollment in a technical, engineering, drafting, or CAD-related program.

• Basic familiarity with AutoCAD or Mastercam software or drafting concepts preferred.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow technical standards and procedures.

• Ability to learn quickly in a structured training environment.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.

• Effective communication skills and willingness to ask questions and seek feedback.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
