Role Overview

The Product Owner for Finance & Accounting leads the strategy, roadmap, and execution of digital products that power core financial operations. This role bridges accounting expertise with product leadership, ensuring that systems supporting general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting, compliance workflows, and reconciliation processes are accurate, scalable, and aligned with regulatory standards. The Finance Product Owner partners closely with Finance, FP&A, compliance, audit teams, and Strategic Business Partner (SBP) to deliver solutions that strengthen financial integrity and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure alignment with GAAP, internal controls, and enterprise financial strategy.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, process optimization, and modernization of financial workflows.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with Finance, FP&A, Treasury, Audit, and Compliance teams to understand needs and pain points.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between finance stakeholders and BSP teams and product teams.
  • Facilitate cross-functional discussions to ensure clarity, alignment, and shared understanding of deliverables and priorities.

Backlog Ownership & Delivery

  • Own and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring high-value features are delivered efficiently.
  • Write clear user stories, accounting requirements, and acceptance criteria, considering journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, close processes, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with BSP teams to ensure timely delivery of features and enhancements.
  • Validate solutions through testing, stakeholder feedback, and financial reviews.

Financial Systems Expertise

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, technical accounting, financial ERPs, financial reporting tools, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure data integrity across interconnected systems and financial data flows.
  • Support audit readiness through strong controls, traceability, and documentation.
