This role is the primary people leader and execution enabler within the district, translating regional strategy into disciplined territory-level action. The District Sales Manager balances field leadership, coaching, and business management, ensuring Territory Sales Managers operate with a clear ownership mindset, strong fundamentals, and consistent execution standards. People Leadership & Development Directly lead, coach, and develop Territory Sales Managers through regular ride-along and structured field coaching Set clear expectations for territory ownership, activity discipline, and performance outcomes Provide ongoing feedback, conduct performance reviews, and manage performance improvement plans when needed Support onboarding and ramp-up of new Territory Sales Managers Identify skill gaps and partner with training resources to improve selling effectiveness District Sales Performance & Execution Drive achievement of district revenue, growth, and market-share objectives Review and coach territory business plans, pipelines, and forecasts Ensure consistent execution of pricing, promotions, and sales initiatives across all territories Monitor key performance indicators and address execution gaps proactively Strategy Deployment Translate regional and national strategies into actionable district and territory priorities Lead execution of new product launches, sales programs, and strategic initiatives Ensure alignment between Makita priorities and field-level activity Customer, Channel & Field Engagement Support Territory Sales Managers in managing distributor relationships and key end-user accounts Participate in key customer meetings, job site visits, and escalations as required Reinforce best practices in distribution engagement, pull-through selling, and value-based sales execution Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with marketing, product management, training, and operations teams to support district objectives Provide structured field feedback to improve programs, tools, and execution effectiveness Share best practices across District Sales Managers Reporting, Administration & Compliance Ensure accurate CRM usage, forecasting discipline, and reporting cadence across the district Manage district travel planning and expense controls Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and ethical guidelines  Skills Required: Sales Leadership & Coaching – Proven ability to develop and lead high-performing field sales representatives Performance Management – Ability to set expectations, measure results, and drive accountability Territory Management Expertise – Strong understanding of territory-based selling models Business & Financial Acumen – Understanding of forecasting, margins, pricing, and promotional ROI Execution Discipline – Ability to drive consistency across multiple territories Problem Resolution – Ability to address escalations and remove barriers to execution Communication & Influence – Strong interpersonal skills across field, distributor, and leadership audiences Ownership Mindset – Accountability for district performance and team development  Supervisory Responsibility: This position has direct supervisory responsibility.  Other Duties: This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities. The District Sales Manager spends significant time traveling within the assigned district to coach Territory Sales Managers, visit distributors and customers, and support key jobsite activity. Work environments include distributor facilities, customer offices, industrial and construction jobsites, and meeting venues.  Travel: Regular regional travel within the district is required, including frequent driving and periodic overnight stays. Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field preferred. 7–10 years of progressive B2B sales experience, preferably in industrial or construction products Prior experience of managing and developing field sales representatives strongly preferred. Demonstrated success driving sales performance through others. Experience working through distribution channels.
