Maintenance Reliability Engineer

Location: La Porte, TX
Division: Mitsubishi Chemical America – Soarnol Division

Join a global leader in specialty chemicals and play a key role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of critical manufacturing assets. Mitsubishi Chemical America’s Soarnol Division is seeking a Maintenance Reliability Engineer to drive mechanical integrity, support plant operations, and strengthen the long-term reliability of our equipment and systems.

About the Role

As the Maintenance Reliability Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority for mechanical maintenance and reliability across the plant. You’ll support day-to-day troubleshooting, lead mechanical improvements, and partner closely with Operations, Engineering, and Safety teams to ensure our EVOH production processes run safely and efficiently.

This is a hands-on, visible role that directly impacts plant reliability and production success.

What You’ll Do

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with rotating and stationary equipment.

  • Provide second-level support to Maintenance Technicians on complex mechanical problems.

  • Lead mechanical improvements, repairs, and upgrades.

Engineering Support

  • Serve as the mechanical subject matter expert on capital and improvement projects.

  • Ensure compliance with company engineering standards, specifications, and maintenance best practices.

Capital & Design Support

  • Develop concept papers and sanction documents for mechanical projects.

  • Complete MOC documentation and support safe implementation of design changes.

  • Support equipment checkout, commissioning, and start-up activities.

Safety, Health & Environmental Support

  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses, safety audits, and incident investigations.

  • Stay informed on changes to safety standards and requirements.

Documentation & Administration

  • Maintain accurate equipment documentation, files, drawings, and procedures.

  • Ensure continuity and integrity of mechanical systems information.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.

  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a chemical plant environment.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including pumps, piping, valves, tanks, and pressure vessels.

  • Experience with rotating equipment troubleshooting, repair, and installation.

  • Understanding of Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), FMEA, and asset criticality.

  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM) and asset integrity requirements.

  • RCFA training or certification in Maintenance & Reliability (CMRP/CRE) a plus.

The salary range for this position is $145,000-155,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
