OxyChem is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Maintenance Superintendent to join our Battleground Plant in La Porte, TX. This position is accountable for achieving the plant and company objectives for safety, productivity, equipment reliability, employee relations, and environmental concerns as they relate to the maintenance function.
Essential Job Duties:
- Make routine decisions affecting maintenance activities, services, and repairs, including employee matters as authorized by Human Resources, maintenance contract negotiations, staffing and overtime needs, work priorities, and repair methods and techniques.
- Support OxyChem’s commitment to protecting the environment and the health and safety of employees, customers, and the communities where the company operates and transports products.
- Develop and administer programs, systems, and work practices that support cost control and improve plant efficiency, safety, productivity, reliability, and maintenance performance.
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance activities to support safe, effective execution of plant turnarounds while minimizing shutdown cost and duration.
- Establish and monitor key maintenance measures to sustain an effective maintenance and reliability program and ensure consistent application of the Maintenance Excellence Process.
- Provide leadership and technical direction to maintenance personnel to apply sound maintenance practices, reduce costs, improve process uptime, and increase mechanical reliability.
- Oversee the maintenance planning and scheduling process and evaluate performance against established benchmarks and business needs.
- Manage maintenance expenditures within budget by monitoring costs, setting priorities, and forecasting future maintenance requirements.
- Coordinate and direct outside resources assigned to the plant.
- Maintain regular contact with maintenance contractor representatives and routine communication with material, equipment, and repair vendors.
- Work with engineering groups to execute capital projects and support effective use of capital funds in alignment with plant and company objectives.
- Maintain and expand technical expertise in specialized and emerging areas while participating in professional development programs that strengthen overall job performance.
- Integrate Process Safety and Risk Management principles into department operations and ensure annual department goals include meaningful Process Safety activities throughout the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a minimum of 5 years of plant maintenance or manufacturing experience and previous supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage costs and develop, implement, and maintain systems that optimize maintenance performance.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays and respond to non-routine callouts as business needs require.
- Physical requirements: Must be able to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and stairs, walk, bend, and stoop. Must also be able to wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator, and respond to visual and audible alarms.
- Knowledge of and experience with plant maintenance work processes.
- Working knowledge of SAP.
