Ferguson is now seeking a Metallurgical Specialist to join our team! The Metallurgical Specialist provides technical expertise in metallurgical analysis, testing, and quality assurance. This role supports laboratory operations, develops testing plans for non-routine work, and serves as a collaborator with customers. The Metallurgical Specialist ensures compliance with industry standards while driving continuous improvement in metallurgical processes. Work is primarily performed in a laboratory setting with occasional exposure to industrial environments. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols is required. Daily work includes standing for extended periods and handling chemicals or metal samples.
Responsibilities
  • Proficient in metallography, microscopy, and advanced metallurgical testing techniques.
  • Strong understanding of physical, chemical, mechanical, and corrosion testing of metal products.
  • Advanced knowledge of sample preparation for laboratory testing techniques.
  • Skilled in grinding, polishing, mounting and cutting of metal materials.
  • Ability to develop and implement complex testing plans and interpret metallurgical data.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting metallurgical processes and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality management systems and ISO standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of pipes, valves, and fittings used in industrial applications.
  • Understanding of metallurgical requirements for refining, chemical manufacturing, and general industrial systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for customer interaction and reporting.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and laboratory data management systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in metallurgical laboratory operations or industrial testing environment.
  • Previous experience in ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 organizations.
  • Familiarity with ASTM and other standard testing methods.
  • Experience with metallurgical sample preparation tools, instruments and advanced microscopy equipment.

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.

This role is Bonus or Incentive Plan eligible.
